"CEREC" single visit crowns:

The "CEREC" single visit crown system is a technology that was born 20 years ago. For me it has only been recently, however, that the idea and the technologies needed to implement it have proven themselves. Several advancements have allowed me to embrace the CEREC system.

1) In 2003 CEREC 3D imaging was developed. This gave the us the control we had been lacking, by being able to visualize the final product on the computer screen.

2) The continued improvement in bonding agents now allows us to place inlays in teeth which, when tested, show these restored teeth to be as strong as a natural undecayed tooth.

3) The ceramic ingots, which the CEREC milling unit uses to create the final restoration, are 40% stronger than the ceramic we can obtain from a dental laboratory. This is due to the ingot being fabricated in an industrial clean vacuum, avoiding the room air contamination of the laboratory.
